the nest cam indoor outdoor camera isfinally here and we get to test it outit does come with a built-in batteryinside so we can place this thinganywhere we don’t need to be tied to anoutlet inside the box comes a usb powercable but how this thing plugs in isvery strange to me for some reason theangle of the power cable jets outtowards the front of the camera i don’tunderstand it at all i don’t know whodeveloped this thing why you would wanta cable shooting out away from the wallwhy not just reverse it and let me justtell you you can’t reverse it if i tryto reverse this thing it does not seatin and line up with the pins inside soit is pretty frustrating to look at thispower cable being plugged in seems likea very poor design choice in addition tothe power cable we also have a magneticmount so you’re going to screw the baseplate wherever you want to put thisthingscrew on the magnetic mount and then youcan place the camera wherever you wantto it is really nice and easy it has anextremely strong magnet built into thebase which allows the camera to stickwithout any worries of falling off okaynow before we get started don’t forgetto subscribe and hit that notificationbell so you don’t miss out on futurevideos like this one with that saidlet’s get started and take a look atwhat comes in the box all right we’ve

got all of the basics in the box herewe’ve got our camera itself we’ve got agetting started guide we’ve got themount that if you want to mount it tothe house we’ve got our screws andanchors back here we’ve got our powercable and this is going to be a usbpower cable and then we’ve got our brickhere if you want this to have an actualweatherproof plug on the other sideyou’re going to have to buy the outdoorpower cable but let’s take a closer lookat the camera so this is the 1080pcamera we’ve got the mount on the backthis is magnetic and this is a superstrong magnetbutconnects right there if we take a lookat the back i believe this is going tobe a reset button back here so we’ve gotthe reset button underneath we’ve got aquarter 20 mount we’ve got a speaker andthen we’ve got the charging ports underhere take a look at the rest of it thatis all that there is we’ve got that onthe bottom on the front here we’ve gotthe 1080p camera itself 2 megapixelcamera we’ve got a status light and thenwe’ve also got the microphone rightthere now when i was taking a look at

the back of the box here one thing thati noticed is that this now says we havea 2 megapixel sensor built into thiscamera and it is a 1080p camera nowthat’s quite a disappointment for acamera coming out in 2021 especiallysincestats like this came out i don’t knowthree four years ago two megapixels1080p camera now if we take a look atthe previous version to this so the nestoutdoor iq that had a4k sensor even though it did shoot in1080p and it had an 8 megapixel cameraso now we’veseemed to gone backwards now this onehas a 2 megapixel camera we’ll go aheadand a little bit later i’ll put both ofthese next to each other so you can seethe difference between these two now iunderstand with this camera right hereis that it is a battery powered camerathey can’t have this thing just befull-blown hardcore it’s not plugged inall the time now granted you can have itplugged in all the time and if you doplan on using the 24 7 recording it hasto be plugged in so you can’t get 24 7recording with this even if you have thesubscription unless this thing isplugged in so do keep that in mind nowsome other cool features that you’regonna get with this camera is that it’sgonna come with three free hours ofrecording so you don’t have to have asubscription to use this camera which isa nice little perk but three hoursreally isn’t that much if somethinghappens in the middle of the night saysomebody breaks into your car or maybeyou notice something got stolen out ofyour yard in the middle of the nightjust something that you are not able toview that footage within the first threehours and save it to your phone you’rekind of screwed so it would be nice ifthere’s at least 24 hours of recordingon there just in case you need to goback but you are gonna have to pay fortheir subscription now their

Nest Aware Subscription

subscription can be a little expensiveif you’re just gonna do one camera forone camera or as many cameras as youwant their cheapest plan is six dollarsa month and that’s going to includeanywhere from one camera uh tounlimited number of cameras and that’sgoing to give you 30 days of event basedrecording now if you want to pony up alittle bit more double that to 12a month that is going to get you 60 daysof event based recording and it’s goingto give you 10 days of 24 7 recording sojust in case whatever happened mighthave been outside of the motion centerof this camera it didn’t pick it upsomething happened you could have 24 7of recording off of these cameras whichis a great feature and something that iwould definitely recommend doing 12for 24 7 recording on as many cameras asyou have is just a fantastic deal now inaddition to that this camera can processeverything on the actual camera itselfit’s not sending it up to the cloud andthen processing and bringing it backdown it’s going to actually beprocessing it on the camera so it’sgoing to give you some cool featureslike human detection animal detectionvehicle detection that’s all going to beprocessed on the camera itself so like

with most of these diy security camerassetting it up is super easy to doinstead of using the native nest appyou’re actually going to be using thegoogle home app so everything is goingto be set up through there it was reallyeasy to do i just followed all of theon-screen instructions it walked methrough everything that i needed to doand then we were all set up so another

Familiar Face Feature

cool feature with these cameras is thatthey have familiar face detection but toget the most out of that feature theyrecommend mounting the camera about sixto six and a half feet above the groundi don’t know about you but that’s withinarm’s reach of somebody grabbing itwhich i’m not too thrilled about imounted mine up on the eaves of my housewhich is about nine feet so unlesssomebody looks up at the camera it’s notreally going to tell me who it is butwhat it will do is that i’ll get anotification saying a person wasdetected now if by chance that persondoes look up at the camera i might beable to pick up who it is so i have hadthe family in the backyard and sometimesi’ll get a notification that one of thegirls was detected or my wife or myselfwhich is a pretty cool feature but ifyou are going to be mounting this up alittle bit higher out of reach thenunless somebody looks up at the camerayou might not be able to tell now with

Anti-Theft Mount

all right we are testing out both ofthese cameras right now it’s a beautifulsunny day outside about 10 feet away andthis is what it looks and it sounds likei’m back all the way up gonna get to beabout 20 25 feet away let you guyslisten to what it sounds like whoafromlet’s take a look now at what thiscamera is going to look like in theevening okay now let’s jump over to anevening demo and i want to actually do aside-by-side comparison comparing thisnew nest camera to the old nest iq nowkeep in mind we’re comparing both 1080pcameras the nest iq is a 4k sensor andis an 8 megapixel sensor where the newone is only a 1080p sensor and isactually only a 2 megapixel so let’s seea comparison of these two cameras nextto each otherall right so it is finally evening thesun is setting we got some good shadeback here i want to show you guys whatthese cameras look like when it’s notblaring sun in my eyes right here sohere is the shot from i’m about 10 feetaway from the cameras right now i’mgonna walk all the way back up before soyou guys can listen to me and just seewhat it looks like from a little bitfurther away so i’m about 25 feet allthe way back here and let’s go ahead andget up a little bit closer so now i’mabout 15 you know away from both ofthese cameras right herewhat do you guys thinkokay it is dark out here i can barelysee anything but hopefully you guys cansee meokayback to being about 10 feet away this iswhat the camera looks like at night timei’ll take a step back and we’ll walkback up to itall right so that’s what the cameralooks like camera is about nine feetright now just to give you guys someperspective of the camera but this iswhat the night shots look like

Final Thoughts

wow oh my goodness i am actually blown away at the quality that this camera is producing right here considering it is only a two megapixel camera and shooting at 1080p comparing it to the predecessor mean granted that one’s a little bit older but that one also had a 4k sensor and was also twice as much as this think that was like 350 400this thing is 180 and i got to say i also impressed with what this is producing right here the colors were amazing with-it i thought the quality was really good with it what did you guys think let me know in the comments below now there area couple things that i still am not a big fan of with this thing for one there is no built-in spotlight i feel like most cameras these days that are coming-out at least have a built-in spotlighting this i know it’s their first battery powered one but i would like to see a built-in spotlight on this guy right here also i did not like that power cable the power cable sticking out of this thing pointed forward just don’t get it it just it’s so weird tome but all in all i really do like this camera oh one other thing that i wanted to mention too is with the anti-theft mount this also does have a quarter twenty mount on the bottom so you cause other types of mount too if you don’t wanna use the magnet mount and you anna use something that’s a little bit more secure so it doesn’t just pull off you actually have to screw it on you can get just a standard quarter 20 mount and mount this on using essentially any kind of mount out there well all in all i have to say that I’m really impressed with the quality this thing is producing but what do you guys think is this something that you are gonna be picking up or is there another camera that you like more let me know in the comments below if this video was helpful give it a thumbs up let me know that
